Diamond Gems Show Preparations

With our 60th anniversary celebratory production Diamond Gems approaching, we’re delighted that nearly two thirds of our membership have been busy getting involved in the show in one way or another. A full programme of dramatic and musical acts has been devised ready for the performances on October 11th and 12th, and each one is now fully cast and rehearsing hard, with “books down” deadlines looming. We’re also excited to introduce a new element to this show with live musical accompaniment by our very own musical group The Rough Diamonds, consisting of guitars, piano, and even a few drums and tambourines. You can take a look at our talented cast and musicians hard at work in the rehearsal photos at the end of the article.
On top of the usual challenges of putting on a production, Jocelyn Robinson, our producer/co-ordinator for the show, has the tricky task of making sure the transitions between the individual acts are as smooth as possible. To this end, long-time Twyford Drama member Peter King has been appointed as Master of Ceremonies, charged with expertly leading our audience through the show, while Stage Manager Rakhi Drennan works her magic in transforming the set fluidly from song and dance numbers to kitchens and hotel bedrooms… and back again.
The next item on the long to-do list of show preparations is to sort out refreshments and decorations for the auditorium and to design the Souvenir Programme, which is included in the ticket price. Needless to say, we’re anticipating a large number of volunteers from within the group when we have a tasting of our proposed mocktail recipe at one of our upcoming monthly social evenings!
Unlike our normal shows, don’t forget that all tickets for Diamond Gems must be purchased in advance. So, if you haven’t bought yours yet, what are you waiting for? Buy your ticket today!
We look forward to seeing you in October to celebrate our 60th anniversary together.
