Earlier this month, following on from the success of their performances in Loddon Hall, our Traitor at the Beeches team made their way to Henley-on-Thames to perform Act 1 of the play at the Henley Drama Festival. They were very excited to join over 100 amateur theatre enthusiasts descending on the Kenton Theatre to perform 13 plays over the course of the week, all hoping to impress the judge and win an award.

As Twyford Drama’s first foray into a drama festival for decades, writer and director Kathy Reid and the cast and crew were really looking forward to being part of the event and performing on the Kenton stage, and were even more delighted to walk away from the festival with two awards.

The first award was the Jean Sutherland Memorial Award (Adjudicator’s Choice) for the dramatic ‘Traitor’ moment in the performance – a special lighting effect in which the word ‘Traitor’ was projected onto the stage wall in red and caused quite a stir amongst the audience. The second award was the Peggie Wilcock Award for best supporting role, awarded to Ruth Clement for her portrayal of a narcissistic and volatile character called Pearl.

Ruth noted that: “The adjudicator commented on how close-knit cast and crew appeared to be, describing us as a ‘family’. It’s true! We are like a family. We lifted each other’s game as we developed our characters and had full confidence in each other, both cast and crew. Above all we had Kathy’s brilliant script to work with and her clear direction. This acting award is attributable to everyone’s talent and commitment at Twyford Drama.”

A huge well done to the whole cast and production team of Traitor at the Beeches – very well deserved!
